Small Ripples, Real Change

Are you thinking about what you’d like to achieve in the year ahead—personally or in your business.

For most people the New Year means setting BIG new goals. The fun is in creating the goals and planning how you’ll achieve them.

The hard part—what we call the “boring middle”—is the daily work of changing and sustaining new habits. This is where most goals quietly fall over, often very early in the year.

This year, I suggest contemplating creating something smaller and creating a ripple effect.

Think about your ‘why’ and your vision for your business. What would you really like to achieve this year or what outcomes would you like to see for your clients from working with you.

For example, I would love to see all business owners becoming profitable employers. Whether it’s first-time employers or they may already have employees. The key is to maintain or build a profitable business while creating jobs and growing a sustainable business. However, we are just one small business in Hawkes Bay so we won’t be ‘saving’ everyone. So, I’m thinking a smaller goal, what would it look like if we helped one business become profitable and able to employ their first employee. Think about the ripple effect in the community from that one small goal.

Then we rinse and repeat.

For those of you who, like me, get overwhelmed by big goals, give yourself permission to slow it down. Turn down the noise. Think smaller. One thoughtful change, done well, can create more impact than a long list of ambitious intentions that never make it past February.

If this way of thinking resonates, Pulse Smart Money is where we work through these smaller, practical shifts with business owners—focusing on steady progress, sustainable profit, and less financial noise. There’s no rush. Just a calmer, more intentional way forward.
