Helping You Stay Ahead: Changes to IRD Credit Reporting

Quick Overview

  • IRD is trialling a faster process to report large unpaid tax debts to Centrix.

  • Selected businesses with significant GST, PAYE or income tax arrears will get a "Notice of Intent" in their myIRD account on the same day a couriered notice goes to the company’s registered office.

  • You’ll have 30 days from the delivery date to act (pay in full or set up an instalment plan) to avoid being reported.

  • Sending routine overdue reminders and offering repayment options now counts as IRD having made “reasonable efforts” to collect the debt.

  • A formal notice to the company (registered office/myIRD) is enough — IRD won’t need to notify each director separately.

Who Might Be Affected

  • Debts over $150,000, or

  • Debts unpaid for one year that are 30% or more of the company’s assessable income.

What We Recommend:

  • Check that your company details and authorised users in myIRD are up to date.

  • Keep an eye on myIRD and your company mail so you don’t miss notices.

  • If you’re concerned about arrears, contact Inland Revenue straight away to set up a payment plan before any 30-day window closes.

  • Speak with your accountant or tax adviser about options — we can help you review cashflow and organise a workable plan.
